MILDRED L. PETERSON

Mildred Louise (Dick) Peterson, 93, of Pawnee City, formerly of Waverly and Humboldt, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at Premier Estates in Pawnee City. She was born on Jan. 17, 1924 near DuBois to Ernest and Sarah (Habegger) Dick.

Mildred grew up the middle child of three children on a farm east of DuBois. For her early formal education, she attended Rockdale country school and later graduated from DuBois High School with the Cclass of 1940.

She married Norman Peterson on Aug. 22, 1948 in Humboldt. The couple established their home on a farm 11 miles northwest of Humboldt, where Mildred helped with the daily farm activities. She began working for Dr. Heim and then at the Humboldt Hospital. Mildred retired from the Colonial Acres Nursing Home after working in the laundry department for 28 years.  

She liked to travel and had taken vacations with her son Loren to the mountains and the Great Lakes region. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, working with flowers, and spending time with her family. Mildred loved dogs, which always seemed to bring a smile to her face.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; a sister, Eleanor (Oliver) Mosteller; and sister-in-law, Polly Dick.

Mildred is survived by her son, Loren (Penny) Peterson, of Waverly; brother, Robert Dick, of Lynch, NE; and other nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 at The Christian Church in Humboldt, with Pastor Ron Russell officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Capitol Humane Society or Organ Recovery Services, 987050 Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE 68198, the Friends of the Auditorium @ 63576 705 Rd., Omaha, NE 68376.
