ARCHIE HODGE

Archie Hodge, 88, of Falls City, passed away Feb. 7, 2017 at Falls City. He was born Oct. 13, 1928 at Fairbury to the late Archie Taylor and Clara (Bean) Hodge.
As a child, his family moved to Rulo where he attended school and graduated from high school in 1946.  
Archie enlisted in the U.S. Navy at Kansas City, MO on Aug. 30, 1951 and was honorably discharged on Aug. 25, 1955 at Norfolk, VA. He earned a National Defense Service Ribbon, Navy Occupation Medal and a Korean Service War Medal
On March 10, 1957 he married Carlota J. Barber at the Reserve Christian Church at Reserve, KS.
They moved to Chicago, IL where he worked for American Airlines.  Wanting to be near family, they moved to Topeka and later to Hiawatha where he was employed by Safeway.  Their four children were born in Hiawatha and they moved to Falls City in Aug. 1966, where they have since lived.   
He was employed at Frontier Homes from 1967 until they closed.  Also worked at Circle Steele until they closed.  Worked at Woodings Verona until his retirement in July 1995.  Archie enjoyed part-time work at Sunmart for several years after his retirement.  He enjoyed gardening and spent many hours tending his flower beds.  Archie was an avid reader of books and newspapers, had a remarkable memory of dates, was very good at crossword puzzles, and enjoyed playing trivial pursuit and scrabble.  He entered Falls City Care Center on September 3rd, 2012 due to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.
Archie was a member of First Christian Church.  Served as board chairman, elder and deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Carlota Hodge, of the home; children, Marsha (Jerry) Roland, Mark (Jean) Hodge, Michelle (Max) Milam, all of Falls City; Amy (Dan) Lunzmann of Auburn; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and seven  step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers (William, Robert, James) and sisters (Daisy, Margaret, Arlene).
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church with Reverend Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Interment will be held at Steele Cemetery. Military Honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.
Family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
