LESTER NELSON

Lester G. Nelson, 91, of Falls City, passed away Monday, Jan. 18, 2017 at Falls City. He was born Sept. 11, 1925 at Oakland, NE, to the late George and Amy (Johnson) Nelson.

Lester was raised in Oakland and graduated from Oakland High School in 1942. After high school he was drafted into the U.S. Army on Sept. 21, 1945 and was honorably discharged on Feb. 6, 1947. While serving he earned a World War II Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal. Upon discharge, he moved to Craig, NE, and farmed. He married Anna Mangold on Feb. 16, 1948 at Falls City. She passed away on March 18, 2012. When married the couple made their home on a farm near Oakland until moving to a farm near Falls City in 1956 where he farmed, operated a grain bin, and a Farm Building Construction Co. He was also a master plumber and electrician. He retired in 2010.

The couple enjoyed traveling throughout the United States to visit relatives.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 20th and Towle.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents; wife; great-grandson, Sean Watlington; and a brother, in infancy.

He is survived by daughter, Barbara (Michael) Watlington, of Falls City; brothers, Howard (Carol) Nelson, of Virginia, and Kenneth (Joyce) Nelson, of Lakeland, FL; sisters, Marie Crom, of Blair, and Phyllis (Glen) Barth, of Elkhorn; grandchildren, Mark (Satin) Watlington, of Stillwater, MN, and John (Jo) Watlington, of Falls City; great-grandchildren, Carter, Pierson and Jacob.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Andrew Chavanak officiating. Dorr and Clark Funeral Home, Falls City, is in charge of arrangements.
