Kenneth Hunzeker

Kenneth Elmer Hunzeker of Rulo, Nebraska went to his heavenly home on the evening of April 2, 2023. His family was blessed for him to go peacefully sitting in his Ranger watching the sunset on the family farm he dearly loved!

Kenny was born December 2, 1935 north of Rulo in the home where he currently resided. He was born to Elmer and Malinda (Vollmers) Hunzeker. He was their only child. He was their pride and joy.

Kenny attended Fischer School of Rulo completing the 8th grade. He then immediately began farming with his dad on the farm he currently farms. They also owned and operated the saw mill.

Kenny was drafted to the United States of America Army from 1958-1960.

In 1957 he met the love of his life Mary Esther (Stayton) roller skating at Sycamore Springs. They were united in marriage on June 7, 1959 in McCook, Nebraska.

After marriage they moved to Fort Lewis, Washington while he finished out his orders. Then he moved back to settle and continue farming north of Rulo.

Kenny had a love for the land and moving its dirt. Between dozing, excavating, and farming on his own he also did custom work.

He was known for lending a helping hand to others. Everyone that met him loved him. He loved to hunt and fish. His last fishing trip was a couple of years ago when he went with his son and grandsons spoonbill fishing. He was also known for his gunsmith work. People far and wide brought guns for him to build and repair. He could fix any and everything.

He loved his children, grandchildren, and great children dearly. His grandsons that grew up next door to him kept him on the move between wrestling mats, football games, cross country meets to show choir. And the Lincoln granddaughters kept him busy from dance recitals to soccer games. They lit up his life.

He was proceeded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Esther of Rulo. Son, Robert (Angie) Hunzeker of Rulo, daughter, Tami (Jay) Lamb of Lincoln, grandchildren Kristin(Steffan) Stuckey of Lincoln, Katie (Phil) Paitz Lincoln, Brandi (Jordan) Conner Lincoln, Carter Hunzeker Olathe, KS, and Keegan Hunzeker Olathe, great-grandchildren, Aiden and Audrey Conner, James, Marian, and Elayne Paitz.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (20th & Towle St.) with Pastor Will Certain officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
