PAUL D. MEZ

Paul D. Mez, 88, of Platte City, MO, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2015 at Cameron, MO. He was born on July 31, 1927 at Verdon, the son of the late Henry and Matilda (Becker) Mez.
    Paul was raised in Verdon and was hospitalized for 14 months when he was in his early 20’s, surviving tuberculosis. Paul loved music, especially old time country. He played the piano, accordion, banjo and guitar, he also enjoyed gardening and raised and butchered his own cattle. He was a very religious and hard working man and very loving husband and father. Paul spent his adult life farming and operating heavy equipment.
On May 5, 1951, Paul married Vesta May Murphy, of Rulo.
    He served in the U.S. Army beginning April 23, 1946. Paul served in WWII, where he received a Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on April 21, 1947.
    On May 29, 1976, Paul married Mary Bonita Hutchins at Jennie Linn, AR.
    He was a member of the Church of God AIC and the VFW.
    Paul is survived by his wife, Bonita, of Platte City; children, Liz (Richard) Henderson, of Milton, FL, Henry (Rhonda) Mez, of Kingston, GA, Paul “Skeets” (Brenda) Mez, of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Melinda (Bob) Cole, of San Juan Capistrano, CA; step-children, Rita Johnson, of Excelsior Springs, MO, Christy (Brad) Baker, of Colorado Springs, CO, Keith Snow, of Muldrow, OK, Faron (Sindi) Snow, and Joe Snow, all of Platte City; sisters, Marilyn Schlosser, of Syracuse, and Jane (Ernie) Hoppe, of Sabetha, KS; 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Daniel Mez.
    A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015 at Steele Cemetery, Falls City, with Waldo Armstrong officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
