WILLIAM EUGENE DYKES

William Eugene Dykes, 75, of Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 with his family at his side. He was born on Feb. 12, 1939 in Falls City to William Nathan and Daisy Louise Dykes.

Funeral service was Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015 at the Tonganoxie Christian Church Life Center. The family received friends before the service. Burial was Friday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

He graduated from Falls City High School and Finlay Engineering College in Kansas City, MO.

Bill married Carol Ann Moritz on Oct. 1, 1960 in Leavenworth, KS. She survives of the home. He is also survived by three sons, Lawrence (Mary), of Lawrence, KS, Robert (Christine), of Williamsburg, KS, and Timothy (Valerie), of Shawnee, KS; and six grandchildren, Bryant (Nicole), Alyssa, Olivia, Caroline and Samuel; great granddaughter, Harper; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

He became a member of Tonganoxie Christian Church in 1976. Over the years, Bill served the Lord in many ways at the church, as Deacon and member on the Finance and Building and Planning Committees.

Bill was a registered professional engineer in the states of Kansas and Missouri. Most recently he was an independent consultant after having retired from Westar Energy in 1997 as Executive Director of Transmission Engineering. Previously he held electrical engineering leadership positions in Kansas City at Board of Public Utilities, Burns & McDonnell, Black & Veatch and Bendix. He was a past member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Power Engineering Society, Electric Power Research Institute Transmission Substation Task Force and the Edison Electric Institute Committee serving as Chairman of the Transmission Engineering Task Force.  

Additionally, he served as board member at the West Branch YMCA in Kansas City, KS, and was as active in scouting and other community activities.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Tonganoxie Christian Church Memorial Fund are suggested.
