BART E. CHANDLER

Barton “Bart” Eugene Chandler, 77, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully at home at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014 surrounded by loved ones. He was born Sept. 17, 1937 to Raymond Chandler and Gladys Boatman Chandler on a farm near Nemaha.

Bart graduated from Shubert High School in 1955. He traveled all 50 of the United States, parts of Canada, Central America and the Caribbean Islands. He worked hard to care for his wife and family, working at many occupations. Bart relocated to several cities before settling his family in Lincoln in 1976.

It seemed that Bart could drive just about anything. To name a few of his occupations: farming in Nemaha County; logging in Willow, AK; commercial fishing for Salmon off the coast of Alaska; setting dynamite and driving a train for climax mining near Leadville, CO; and over-the-road trucking, retiring from commercial driving in early 2009. Bart had been in failing health for the past several years.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ray and Gladys; brothers, Donald and Edward; grandsons, Trent and Michael.

Bart is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce; his sister, Mynra Georges, of Auburn; children, Cathleen Jenkins (Bruce), of Omaha, Timothy (Jennifer), of Concord, CA, Jackson (Debora) and Douglas (Shanique), all of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Shane, James, Diane and Levi, all of Lincoln, Crystal and Mackenzie, both of Concord, CA; and eight great-grandchildren; many other family and friends.

There will be no formal service, except private service at a later date in Prairie Union Cemetery, in Shubert. Aspen Cremation & Burial Service, of Lincoln, is in charge of arrangements. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.aspenaftercare.com
