Car collides with grain truck near Shubert

A 28-year-old Falls City woman at around noon Thursday was transported to Community Medical Center in Falls City and treated for injuries to her chest after her car collided with a grain truck three miles south of Shubert on Highway 67. Her injuries were described as disabling.

Christa Feighner was northbound on 67 in a 2002 Ford Taurus when an eastbound grain truck, driven by Korey Schawang, 38, of Falls City, crossed the highway on 715 Road. Schawang, who was not injured, said he did not see Feighner’s vehicle.

The car collided with the 2005 International truck, which is owned by Darren Eickhoff, just behind the cab and ruptured a fuel tank. Richardson County Sheriff Randy Houser reported the Feighner car was totaled and the grain truck suffered moderate damage but was driven away.

The FC Volunteer Ambulance Squad and the Verdon Volunteer Fire Dept. responded to the scene. Firefighters washed down the highway where the impact occurred.
