Robert L. Stoltenberg

Robert (Bob) LeRoy Stoltenberg, 85, of Hiawatha, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Highland Healthcare, where he had resided for the past several months.

He was born at the home of his parents, the late Frank LeRoy Stoltenberg and Ethel Mae (Narbett) Stoltenberg, in rural Hiawatha on Aug. 27, 1928, where he was welcomed by his sister, Jean (Stoltenberg) Craven. Bob graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1946. He then attended Kansas State University, where he graduated in 1950 with a degree in Animal Husbandry and a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army from the ROTC program.  Upon graduation, Bob returned to Hiawatha where he operated the family farm with his father. 

As a young adult, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hiawatha. Bob was a member of the Horton Lakeview Country Club.

He married Pat Tolles in November 1954.  She preceded him in death in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Ann (Stoltenberg) DePrey, in 1997. They had three children:  son Stephen, daughter Barbara Ann (Stoltenberg) DePrey who also preceded him in death in 1997, and son Michael.

Bob is survived by sons, Steve (Wanda) Stoltenberg, of Panama City Beach, FL, and Mike Stoltenberg, of Sulphur Springs, TX; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Private family graveside services will be held Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Chaplain Don Goatley, of NEK Hospice, will officiate.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the NEK Multi-county Hospice, American Cancer Society, or the charitable organization of choice in Bob’s name and may be sent in care of the funeral home at 124 S. 7th St., 66434.
