Martha Jean Snethen, 97, of Falls City, passed away January 2, 2018 in Falls City. She was born to Louis C. and Ola G. (Crook) Wittwer on December 29, 1920 at home on a farm in Richardson County, NE near Sabetha, KS.
She graduated high school from Honey Creek and attended Peru State. She was Assistant Clerk of District Court in Falls City prior to going to Stockton, CA where she married Guy Robert Snethen of Humboldt on January 16, 1943. While in California, she worked in the Motor Pool at the Stockton Ordinance Base until Guy was discharged in 1946. They moved back to Nebraska, where they farmed until their retirement. She was a long time member of First United Methodist where she taught Sunday School, was a member of United Methodist Women serving in all offices.
She was a 4-H leader and served on the 4-H Council, had been actively involved in the County Extension Club and had served as chairman. She was a past president and active member of Chapter CY P.E.O., Falls City.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Gay Sutter and her husband Harold of Lincoln, son, Jon Snethen and his wife Rita of Falls City, six grandchildren, Scott Sutter and his wife Darla, Lincoln, Kristy Snethen and her fiancé Tom Humm of Dawson, Tammi Snethen of Falls City, Heather Grell and her husband Brett of Omaha, NE, Cory Snethen of Falls City, Jason Snethen of Salem, two step-grandchildren, Abby Tipton and her husband Jeremy of Omaha, Carie Sapp of Arlington, NE, nine great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Guy on October 5, 2002, son, Tom on November 25, 1977, sister Marjorie Schneider and a brother Kenneth Wittwer.
Her funeral is Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church with Reverends Paul Weinert and Heather Grell officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7-8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
