Charlene Schuetz

 

Charlene Elaine Schuetz, 91, of Bettendorf, IA, passed away May 11, 2022, at Genesis East Hospital in Davenport, IA. Charlene was born March 30, 1931, to John and Alice (Petersen) Jones in Lorton, NE.

Charlene’s parents both died when she was very young and she was raised in several family households graduating from Dunbar High School in Dunbar, NE in 1948. She married Stan Catlett in 1949 and they divorced in 1952. They had two daughters, Cheryl and Jerelyn. She married Leo Schuetz and his two children, Scotty and Margaret, in 1954. Together Charlene and Leo added their fifth child, Tom, in 1956 and the family resided in Verdon, NE.

Charlene was actively involved in the life of her family and caring for others. When all her children had started school, Charlene started her career at Home State Bank and the law office of Otto Kotouc in Humboldt, NE. Charlene enjoyed a 30+ year career and served in several positions in the bank and law office including completing numerous income tax returns over the years. She developed many close friendships with her coworkers most of which lasted the rest of her life. It was a very fulfilling career.

Upon retirement Charlene remained very active serving on various community boards and committees, a term as Richardson County Assessor, as a school crossing guard, and her church. Some of her most fulfilling service included fundraising for the new Falls City Community Medical Center, Nebraska Foster Care Review Board, Clarissa Cook Hospice House, 4-H Leader and Dorcas Circle/LWML.

Family was always the top priority for Charlene. Cooking, instructing and loving them came very naturally for her and she loved every minute. Nothing pleased her more than to watch her family enjoy success and mature into the type of individuals she taught them to be.

Charlene is survived by children, Scotty (Jeanne) Schuetz, Margaret Beyer, Jerelyn (Mike) Miles and Tom (Becky) Schuetz, 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, daughter Cheryl Vice, grandson Joshua Vice, brother Gerald Jones and son-in-law Allen Beyer.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 31 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 6 miles north of Falls City, NE followed by burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the funeral at the church starting at 12 noon. There will be a celebration of Charlene’s life at the Falls City Country Club following the funeral. All are welcome.

There will also be a memorial service Friday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, IA
