Cody Thomas Jones was born to Mark and Susie Jones on Mother’s Day, May 11, 1986, in Falls City, NE. He grew up on the family farm, three miles north of Rulo, which has been in the family for over 150 years. On March 2, 2022, he peacefully passed away in Omaha, NE at the age of 35 years.
In his early years, he was very active in sports including summer league baseball. However, his real passion was football and wrestling. He was an outstanding athlete for four years earning letters in wrestling, football, and track. He received All-State Honorable Mention in football and Falls City High School Athlete of the Year in 2005. He was also fourth leading rusher in school history at that time. Cody was a state qualifier in wrestling with a 33-4 record and ranked seventh in Class B by Huskermat.com. Cody also was a member of the FFA and received his state degree in 2005.
After graduation, Cody attended Southeast Community College in Lincoln. He later joined the union as a millwright welder in Kansas City, and then worked assembling wind turbines. After a couple of years, Cody began working for Ramsey trucking and JR Ramer trucking out of Falls City. Cody was always up for a challenge and decided to begin his own trucking company, Jones Transportation. He took a lot of pride in his truck and company. It was not uncommon for Cody to be the first or second truck in line at the terminal day after day. This aggressiveness led to his strong relationship with JR Isch at Morrill Elevator and Brian Poppe of Poppe Farm Management.
During this time, Cody met the love of his life, Amanda Bechtold and they were married on September 14, 2013. God gave to this marriage three beautiful children: Ryker, Paylen, and Brantley. They established their home in Falls City. Cody loved his family. You could always find Cody attending any and every type of family gathering. He was truly the life of the party and loved to make people laugh. Cody loved his nieces and nephews like his own and was present for each and every one of their milestones. He was always requested at family meals for his jalapeño poppers. He loved his Nebraska Cornhuskers and Kansas City Chiefs.
Cody was involved in many activities including spending time with his brothers shooting guns and Missouri river boating. Cody was also involved in the youth Falls City Wrestling club and little league flag football coaching youth wrestlers and football players including his own son Brantley. He had a great passion for demo derbies including building and racing his own demo car. It was not uncommon to see 44C place or win a demo competition. During his travels he was always scouting potential derby cars.
Cody will always be remembered for his smile and good nature. Always willing to help someone out. Cody’s fierceness came out in his athletic endeavors, demo derby hobbies, coaching, and in his growing passion for operating the family farm with his dad. He was the seventh-generation farmer. In his lifetime, he was always eager for a challenge and always wanted to leave things better than he found them.
Cody is survived by his wife Amanda and their children Ryker, Paylen, and Brantley, his parents Mark and Susie Jones of Rulo; brothers, Luke and his wife Celeste of Falls City, Austin and his wife Andrea of Omaha, other brother RJ Hamilton and his wife Chelsea of Falls City, grandmother N. Jean Jones of Falls City, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Cody was preceded in death by his grandparents Louis and Violet Willits and Morris Jones.
