He was born May 31, 1928, in Falls City.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dolly Hihath, two sons, Michael (Sandra) and Randall (Teresa); a daughter Gayla (Bob) Martin; two sisters, Irene and Donna, and a brother, Harlan; eight grandsons; 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Betty Taylor and Midlred Ingram, and a brother, Merle Blau.
He started working in the oilfield as a roughneck. He worked his way up from roughneck to derrick man to driller to drilling superintendent and finally to drilling consultant. He “officially” retired twice. Both times he was called to come back and work on special projects.
In the 1990’s he helped design a smaller rig – made specifically to fit down narrow streets – and took it to Japan. He helped teach the Japanese how to drill for mineral water. Upon return, he worked two more years before retiring at the age of 73. The next day, May 31, he turned 74.
Services were held January 25 at Belmont Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Belmont Baptist Church.
