Velma Wylta Koenig

Velma Wylta Koenig, 99, of Sealy, TX, passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2020 in Bellville, TX. 

Velma was born to Edwin and Lena (Brecheisen) Oberst at their rural home 7.5 miles northeast of Falls City, NE on September 22, 1920. She graduated from Falls City High School and attended Peru State Teacher’s college for one year and then taught at Maple Grove, District 47, northwest of Falls City for three years. After marriage to Joe she was a wife and mother moving around as the Army moved them. They retired to Lawton, OK in 1959. She worked as a supply clerk at Ft Sill for a time. She was active in church, in house and yard work, and in doing sewing and crafts. She especially enjoyed making quilts for church projects and her many children and grandchildren. She and Joe had a motor home and spent many years in retirement traveling the country and visiting their wide spread family. After her husband’s death she moved to Texas in 2000 to be close to her youngest son, Lowell, and his family. 

She was active with his family, church and sewing and making quilts until her eyesight diminished. She was respected and known for being positive, strong, full of grace, hardworking, adventurous, and willing to share her wisdom and speak her mind with conviction. 

Velma is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Adam and her sisters, Mildred, Laverne, Juanita and brothers, Robert, Virgil and Kenneth. 

She is survived by her four sons, Joseph Alan, Ronald (Sharon), Fredrick (Patricia), Lowell (Marcia), 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren, and three step great, great grandchildren. 

Her burial will be accomplished at the Fort Sill, OK post cemetery. 

A memorial will be planned and conducted at a time and place yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you plant a flower or tree in memory of her where it will produce beauty and shade for people to enjoy.
