Gary Dean Wilson, 86, of Bern, Kansas was born on July 15, 1932, in Humboldt, to Clarence and Laura (Korber) Wilson. He attended country school near Bern, KS and graduated from Bern High School with the class of 1949.
Soon after graduating, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country for a four-year enlistment and was honorably discharged.
After his service in the navy, Gary continued his education by attending a refrigeration trade school where he earned a degree. In 1958, he accepted a job in Falls City, at an appliance store. In 1972, Gary went into partnership with Herbert Overfield Jr. at G & H Hardware. After retiring, he moved back to the family farm near Bern where he has resided since. Gary loved being outdoors where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was an avid reader and passed along all of his books from his book club to other family members.
Gary passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at Pawnee County Memorial Hospital in Pawnee City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by family and friends.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019, at The Wherry Mortuary, 919 “G” Street in Pawnee City, with Pastor Ken Tubbesing officiating.
Inurnment will be at the Bern Cemetery in Bern, with military honors conducted by the U.S. Naval Honor Guard.
