Gerald Barber

Gerald Barber, 72, of Rulo, NE, passed away October 24, 2018, at Falls City, NE. He was born October 16, 1946, at Reserve, KS to Herbert and Dorothy (Duncan) Barber. 

Gerald was raised in the Reserve and Rulo areas and attended high school in Omaha. 

He was drafted into the U. S. Army on April 11, 1966, at Omaha, NE. He served in Vietnam, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. He was honorably discharged on April 10, 1968, at Ft. Carson, CO.

He married Loretta Maes on July 14, 1968, at Omaha, NE. She passed away March 20, 2016.

When married the couple established their home in Omaha and moved to rural Hiawatha, KS before moving to Rulo. He worked for Frontier Homes in Falls City and then became employed at Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad as a machine operator for 34 years, retiring in 2006. Following retirement, he worked part-time helping the area farmers.

Gerald is survived by his children, Deborah Grzywa and her husband Tom of St. Louis, MO, Scott of Rulo, Jeremy and his wife Hannah of Rulo, Lisa Barber of White Cloud, KS, sisters, Beverly Frederick of Rulo, Ramona Frederick of Omaha, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, step-sisters, Nancy Manzer and her husband Ed of Omaha and Marcia Taylor and her husband Frank of Temecula, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Gary, sister, Coleen Nickerson, step-sister, Sally Campbell and step-father, Ivan Miner.

His funeral will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018, at 10:30 AM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Father David Oldham officiating. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

The family received friends on Sunday from 4-6:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
