Wilfred “Willie” John Fiegener

Wilfred “Willie” John Fiegener, 90, formerly of rural Shubert, was born on May 3, 1928, in Westmoreland, Kansas to the late Godfrey and Caroline (Forst) Fiegener. He was raised on the family farm in various areas of southeast Nebraska and attended country school.  At a young age, Willie helped farm with his father and brother.  He was a talented metal worker and could fix just about anything.  This talent led to him owning his own blacksmith business in Dawson where he also served as Mayor.

On November 28, 1962, Willie was united in marriage to Barbara Moenning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson. The couple made their home on a farm east of Shubert where Willie farmed with his father for many years.  In 1991, he sold the farm and moved with his wife to Utica, Nebraska.  Willie continued his love of farming by working for local farmers where he helped farm and did welding jobs.  He and Barb moved to Humboldt in January of 2017 when they became residents of the Colonial Acres Nursing Home. Willie was a hard-working farm boy at heart who had a gentle soul and soft demeanor. He was rarely seen without wearing his favorite green jacket and hat.

Willie passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt having reached the earthly age of ninety years, five months, and twenty-two days.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Elizabeth Fiegener, Adela Steinblock, and Marie Roth, a brother Raymond Fiegener, brother-in-law Eldon Moenning and sister-in-law Evelyn Eaton.

Willie is survived by his loving wife Barbara Fiegener of Humboldt; son Anthony “Tony” Fiegener and wife Julie of Hollister, MO; grandchildren: Alyssa Fiegener of Utica, NE; Dominique Fiegener of Hollister, MO; Brittany Briggs of Kearney, NE; Dallas Briggs of Manhattan, KS; sister-in-law Doris Fiegener of Falls City; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
