Melvin Thomas Shafer II

Melvin Thomas Shafer II, 32, formerly of Hiawatha, was born on December 27, 1985, in Bad Kissingen, Germany to Melvin T. and Sherrie (Daffron) Shafer. He attended Stafford High School in Stafford, VA before moving to the KS/NE area.

Melvin lived in Hiawatha, where he worked at Wimer Millwright. Melvin passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS having reached the age of 32.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Norman and Lonnie Shafer and Mr. and Mrs. William Daffron, and an uncle William Daffron.

Melvin is survived by his father Melvin Shafer of Hiawatha; a sister Jennifer Shafer of Clarksville, TN; mother Sherrie Thomas of Rossville, TN; step-sisters: Latisha (Gregg) Campbell of Hiawatha; Jacklyn Thomas of Rossville, TN; uncles: Helmut (Jean) Shafer of Falls City; Norman (Janet) Shafer of Falls City; aunts: Petra (Peter) Primbs of Straubing, Germany; Debbie (Wayne) Lucas of King George, VA; Ramona (Mike) Dishong of Falls City; nephews: Joel Butcher of Clarksville, TN; Seth Monte of Clarksville, TN; Noah Lemmons of Hiawatha; Jaxx Humphries of Hiawatha; a niece Kinsley Monte of Hiawatha; cousins: Josh (Cornelia) Fritz of Omaha; Danielle (Daniel) Whittaker of Stafford, VA; Alicia (Reggie) Parnell of Seneca, KS; Kyle (Lori) Dishong of Centralia, KS; Chris Lucas and fiancé Kate Lawry of King George, VA; Andrew Lucas of King George, VA; Molly Lucas of King George, VA; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside Inurnment Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2017, at the Falls City Catholic Cemetery in rural Falls City, with Father Thomas Dunavan officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the family’s choice with a later designation.
