Maxine Ann Hefty

Maxine Ann Hefty, 90, Wamego, formerly of Valley Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at a Manhattan care facility. She was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Logan, IA, the daughter of Burdette and Alice Grinnell Kennedy.

Maxine retired as Assistant Vice President of Bank Operations at the Kendall State Bank in Valley Falls after 33 years of service. She had worked for the Citizens State Bank in Valley Falls up until the two banks merged. She was choir director for the Valley Falls United Methodist Church for many years and was a member of United Methodist Women. She was Treasurer of the Delaware Township Board, and a member of Valley Falls Historical Society and the Vallerian Study Club.

Maxine joined the Order of the Eastern Star in 1949, at Valley Falls. She later joined OES No. 399 at Meriden. She had served as Worthy Matron four times and had held 16 other offices in the organization.

She married Walton Hefty, Dec. 21, 1945, at Valley Falls. He died June 5, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Barbara Hefty, and brother, Roger Kennedy.

Survivors include her brother, Robert Kennedy, and his wife, Bonnie, Aiken, SC; her three grandchildren, Lenn Hefty and his wife, Amy, Wamego, Kimberly Gudenkauf, and her husband, Wayne, Olathe, and LeAnne Hochstedler, and her husband, Joe, Havensville; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church with OES No. 399 services also at the church. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
