JAMES SCHUETZ

James Schuetz, 79, of Verdon, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Falls City. He was born March 8, 1938 at Verdon to Lawrence and Mildred (Meinzer) Schuetz.   

He served in the Nebraska National Guard with Company B of Falls City. On June 18, 1968 he married Shirley Frederick at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church at Falls City. She passed away Nov. 6, 1999. He then married Shirley Tillman Jorn on Aug. 1, 2003 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church at Verdon.

James was raised in the rural Verdon area and graduated Verdon High School in 1955 and then graduated Business College at Omaha two years later. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad at Omaha until returning to the Barada area in 1963 to farm. He farmed and raised livestock and also did construction work with Krumme Construction. Later in life he worked for White Cloud Casino and continued to farm. He particularly liked raising hogs and playing cards.

James was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and Falls City Elks Lodge #963.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Verdon; son, Sean (Sandy) Schuetz, of Salem; step-children, Carol (Richard) Strecker, David Jorn and his friend Kathy Lippold, and Gary Jorn, all of Verdon; brother, Gene Schuetz, of Falls City; granddaughters, Lizzie and Jessica Schuetz, both of Salem; nine step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; brother, Larry; and step-daughter, Shari Jorn.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home, with Brian Voos officiating. Interment at Steele Cemetery. Military graveside honors performed by the Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
