BETTY JEAN BANZHAF

Betty Jean (Bourlier) Banzhaf, 87, of Humboldt, passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2017 at the Sabetha (KS) Manor. She was born on June 15, 1929, near Julian, NE, to John and Susan (Clark) Bourlier.  

Betty was raised in the Auburn area, where she attended grade school. Betty later attended Dawson High School and graduated with the Class of 1947.

She married Gerald Banzhaf on Aug. 1, 1948. To this union three daughters — Janet, Diane and Karen — were born. Betty raised her daughters in Humboldt where she was a caregiver at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home for 40 years. She loved flowers and enjoyed spending time tending to her flower beds.   

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John, Clifford, and Lyle Bourlier; sister, Donna (Harry) Leffert; granddaughter, Jo Anna Stover; great-grandson, Joel Franzen; and great-great-granddaughter, Alessandra Gilmore.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Janet (Bob) Coonce, of Humboldt, Diane (Everett) Gilkerson, of Waveland, MS, and Karen Bents and her partner James Austin, of Humboldt; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 at The Christian Church in Humboldt, with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating. Interment at the Glenrock Cemetery near Brock. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or NE Kidney Association, 11725 Arbor St., Suite 210, Omaha, NE 68144. Wherry Mortuary, Humboldt, is in charge of arrangements.
