LOUIS ‘JAY’ STALDER

Louis “Jay” Stalder, 67, of Clatonia, passed away on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017 in Crete. He was born on Oct. 28, 1949 to Norman and Mildred (Parli) Stalder in Humboldt.  
    He attended Humboldt Public Schools, graduating in 1968. Jay graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1972 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He worked the family farm in Humboldt for 20 years. He then returned to school, and in 1991, Jay graduated from Southeast Community College-Beatrice with an Associate’s Degree in Communications. He worked at KWBE Radio in Beatrice from 1991 to 2008. While at KWBE, Jay held many roles, including on-air personality, program director, operations manager and station manager. He enjoyed mentoring young journalists and found it rewarding to watch them grow into successful journalists. Jay went on to work at SCC for eight years as an instructor and instructional designer until his retirement in 2016. Jay was active in the business community, serving as chairman of the Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the East Beatrice Business Association. Jay enjoyed reading, discussing politics, gardening, and especially spending time with family and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Alice Noyd; and brother-in-law, Ray Noyd.
    Jay is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jo Stalder, of Clatonia; children, Gabe Stalder of Genoa, Toby (Anton) Stalder, of Portland, OR, Adrienne (Jacob) Turzynski, of Minneapolis, MN, and Anne (Andrew) Taylor, of Humboldt; sister, Jean (John) Vondras, of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Edith and Beatrice Cheng, of Portland, Grace MacDonald, (daughter of Andrew Schuerman and Jim MacDonald), of Kansas City, MO, Evan, Alice and Isaac Turzynski, of Minneapolis, and Sophia Taylor, of Humboldt; sister-in-law, Mary Olexo, of Lincoln; brothers-in-law, Larry (Cheryl) Noyd, of Rogers, NE, Terry Noyd, and Perry (Sharon) Noyd, all of Stromsburg, John (Janice) Noyd, of Rogers, Gary (Jan) Noyd of Shelby, NE, and Benny (Sue) Noyd, of Bethany, MO; and many nieces and nephews.  
    A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 at The Four-Mile Congregational Church south of Humboldt, with Lana Lyken officiating. Interment will be at The Four-Mile Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to The Four-Mile Cemetery.
