C.J. ‘JACK’ TILLMAN

Cecil Joseph “Jack” Tillman, 86, of Wahoo, passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at Omaha. He was born on March 8, 1929 at North Platte to the late Jack and Fern Tillman.

Jack was a graduate of North Platte High School and Peru State College, where he earned a Masters Degree in Special Education. He was a life-long educator, coach and school administrator in Belleville, KS, and Wahoo.

He met the love of his life, Colleen, in 1947 at Peru. They were married for over 64 years. Jack wrote a weekly column called “Our Town” for the Wahoo Newspaper for over 20 years. Following retirement, he served as aide to State Senator Curt Brom in the Nebraska Legislature. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and entertaining his grandchildren with stories of the troll living in his backyard. Jack was a participant in the Anatomical Gift Program of the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Jack was a frequent visitor of Falls City and had many friends from his school days.

He is survived by his wife, Colleen “Coke” Tillman; his children, Julee Katzman, Sam (Jeral) Tillman, Mindy (Cheryl) Sabatka, and Chuck (Carol) Tillman; nine grandchildren, Madeline (Caddy) Hendrix, Jacob (Alonit) Katzman, Molly Tillman, Joe (Amy) Sabatka, Mikki (Brent) Lund, Mackenzie (Jarod) Tillman, Jack Tillman, Clarissa Tillman and Luke Tillman; and sister-in-law, Audrey Bennett of Falls City.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. Memorials will be used to establish a scholarship fund at Peru State College.
