MARGARET E. (HALL) HAM

Margaret Elise (Hall) Ham, 89, of Princeton, IL, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. She was born Sept. 24, 1925 at Shubert to the late Charles W. and Ethel (Beason) Hall.

On March 29, 1946 Margaret married Donald E. Ham in Hiawatha, KS. They had two children, Barbara and Neal. The couple made their first home in Salem, and for the next 10 years lived in various places around Richardson and Nemaha Counties in Nebraska. The family settled in Princeton in 1974.

Margaret attended Shubert Public School where she graduated as Salutatorian of her class in 1942. She worked as a utility billing clerk for the City of Princeton for 22 years until retiring. She liked to bowl and attend bluegrass festivals, enjoyed playing the guitar and sports. She was always a fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

She is survived by husband, Donald of Princeton, IL; children, Barbara (Mike) Sorenson, of Rice Lake, WI; Neal (Margaret) Ham, of Omaha; grandchildren, Ted Schuler II, Jaymie Van Valkenburg, Timothy Schuler, and Jessica Stalnaker; 14 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Daisy Gates and Irene Baker; and brothers, Charles, Edward and Kenneth.

A funeral service was held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Hemmingson Funeral Home in Auburn, with Rev. Bob Chitwood officiating. Casket bearers were Stephan Schuler, Geoffrey Schuler, Thomas Schuler, Thomas Van Valkenburt, Daniel Stalnaker and Michael Hall. Honorary Bearers were Thomas Van Valkenburt Jr., Tim Schuler II, and Trevor Schuler. Burial followed in Prairie Union Cemetery near Shubert.
