ZOLLIE ‘GAILENE’ BUTRICK GRIER

Zollie “Gailene” Butrick Grier, 57, died Saturday evening, Feb. 7, 2015, surrounded by her family, at her home at Rulo. She was born at Falls City on Nov. 10, 1956, one of five children born to Donald and Rebecca Foster Butrick.

Gailene was a lifelong resident of the White Cloud-Hiawatha area, where she attended Hiawatha schools, later working to earn her GED. She was very talented  and wasn’t afraid to try anything for work: Earned her CNA, cooked at Oak Ridge Nursing Home, sold insurance, managed a Captain D’s, and worked construction. Most importantly, she was an AWESOME Mom and Grandma; and avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.  

Gailene returned to Hiawatha in 2000 from Birmingham, where she had been a few years.

She married Richard Werner, Sr., on May 10, 1975 and a son, Ric, was born. They divorced and she later married Dion Grier on Nov. 10, 2001 in Hiawatha. They lived most of their married life in the White Cloud and Rulo area. He survives of the home.

Also surviving are son, Ric (Tiffany) Werner, of St. Louis, MO, and granddaughter, Olivia; parents, Don and Becky Butrick, of Hiawatha; brothers, William Butrick, of Hiawatha, and Larry Butrick, of White Cloud; a sister, Peggy Hanesworth, of Falls City; many nieces and nephews.

Gailene was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Ann Harrison; adn nephews, Dyllon Butrick and Brock Wilcox.

Memorial services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Tony French officiating. Inurnment at Olive Branch Cemetery, White Cloud.
