Maxine “Mick” T. Story, 92, of Falls City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015 at Falls City. She was born Nov. 1, 1922 at Reserve, KS, to the late Roy and Emma (Jackson) Chesnut.
Mick was raised in the Reserve area and graduated from Reserve High School in 1940. On Dec. 7, 1941 she married Wilbur Mellage at Falls City. When married, the couple established their home in Reserve and moved into Falls City in 1976 and she has lived here since.
Wilbur passed away on May 8, 1976. Mick then married Howard Story on Oct. 28, 1989. He passed away on Nov. 29, 1989.
She was employed at the Falls City Police Department as a dispatcher from 1977 until 1987, when she retired.
Mick was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (20th and Towle St.), the Thursday Morning Coffee Group of her church, was a Charter Member of BPOE Does, and VFW Auxiliary, all of Falls City.
She is survived by sons, Marvin (Linda) Mellage, of Broken Arrow, OK, and Dennis (Judy) Mellage, of Falls City; daughters, Jane Thomas, of Nebraska City, Judy Crouse and her significant other, Clyde Schroeder, of Nebraska City; nine grandchildren; great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.
Mick was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, Lester, Robert, Avery and Homer Chesnut; sister, Laurene Grush; and a son-in-law, Sam Thomas
Funeral services will be held on at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (20th & Towle), with Rev. Andrew Chavanak officiating. Interment in Steele Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
