VICTOR C. KARST

Victor Carl Karst, 85, of Falls City passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 27, 2014. He was born Jan. 31, 1929 at the family home near Barada, Nebraska to the late Henry F. Karst and Anna R. (Herbster) Karst.

While Victor was in grade school, his family moved to the farm they purchased southwest of Falls City. He attended Dist. #75 and graduated from FCHS with the Class of 1946. He attended UNL for two years. Victor was drafted into service with the U.S. Army from March 1951-1953. He was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX, where he met Helen J. Bush of El Paso, TX. They were married Sept. 4, 1955 in Falls City at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 20th and Towle Sts. To this union three children were born. They lived southwest of Falls City on the farm purchased from Adolph Fetzner. They were later divorced.

In 1982 Victor moved to his current residence – his childhood home southwest of Falls City. He married Joyce F. (Olberding) Stallbaumer, of Seneca, KS on April 21, 1990. Victor entered the Falls City Healthcare Community at 28th and Towle Sts. on July 14 of this year due to declining health with Parkinson’s disease.

Victor farmed all his life. During the severe drought of the mid-50, he worked a couple winters at Boeing in Wichita, KS. Later he operated Karst Antenna Service.

He was involved in his church and the community. He participated in the NFO, served on the District #74 School Board, was a member of the Rural Volunteer Fire Dept., serving as secretary/treasurer for 25 years. Victor was on the charter team for the establishment of the Rural Water District #2. He also served over 30 years on the election board for the Falls City precinct. Victor was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church most of his life; transferring to the Christ Lutheran Church, his current membership. He served on the council for both churches.

Victor is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Wes V. (Jame’) Karst, of Valley Center, KS; daughters, Judy A. Baker and Joyce M. (Tom) Jones, both of Falls City; stepsons Allen (Rhonda), of Kingsville, TX, Edwin (Michelle), of Turpin, OK, and David Stallbaumer, of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Eli, Jake, Gabe and Laura Karst, of Valley Center, Michelle Thompson, of Manhattan, KS, Abbie (Joe) O’dell, of Bedford, IA, Sarah (Jeff) Meese, of Lincoln; Roberta (Kyle) Geiger, of Liberty, MO and Rachel (Joe) Jackson, of Falls City; six step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  

Victor was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Milton Karst, on Feb. 26, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church, with Rev. Daniel Gifford officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home, Falls City.
