Donald E. Smith, 73, of Falls City, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Falls City. He was born Jan. 31, 1941 at Chadron to the late Rueben and Dorothy (Ely) Smith.
    He married Rita Anne Staroscik on Oct. 21, 1961 in Duncan, NE.
    Mr. Smith was raised at Chadron and at age 10 moved to Silver Creek. He graduated with Associate Of Arts Degree; he then became employed as a draftsman at Consumers Public Power District at Lincoln. Later they moved to Columbus and he worked for the same company as an engineering technician and was a project engineer for Cooper Nuclear Station. He then worked for Minnesota Power at Duluth, MN, where he was a contracted Administrator.
    They moved to Falls City in 1998 and he worked for NPPD until retiring in 2007. He enjoyed camping and fishing and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
     Donald was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, of Falls City.
     He’s survived by his wife, Rita, of Falls City; daughters, Teresa (Raymond) Hausch, of Portland, OR, Cynthia (Mark) Danielson, Wilsall, MT, Donna (Timothy) Banish, Cincinnati, OH; sons, Jonathan and Timothy Smith, both of Lincoln; brother, Gary Smith, of Fayetteville, AR; sister, Linda (Ronald) Hospodka-Omaha; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Neil.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday, June 31, 2014 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, with Msgr. Robert A. Roh as the presiding priest; interment in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Duncan, NE.
     The Rosary will be read at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home, of Falls City. The family will receive friends following the Rosary at the funeral home.
    In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to family choice.
