Shirley Jorn, 81, of Falls City, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Syracuse. She was born on May 27, 1933 near Verta, NE, on a farm to Ed and Dora Jaros.
Shirley and her family moved to Burchard when she was age three to a different farm. Later, the family sold everything and moved to California, living there for a short time before returning to Nebraska. Shirley’s parents made Beatrice their home; this is where Shirley attended school. Later the family moved to a farm near Falls City, where Shirley attended FC High School.
Shirley married Charles Jorn on March 1, 1950. They farmed and had four children. The family moved to Verdon, where Shirley helped her husband with his trucking business and other jobs as well as at the Richardson County Co-op. After Charles Jorn retired from the Co-op, they started a craft shop. Shirley enjoyed success with painting crafts and pictures. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church at Verdon.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Douglas (Charlene) Jorn, of Louisville, NE, Rick (Joanie) Jorn, of Kearney, MO; daughters, Cheryle (Pat) Castle, of Papillion, Cindy DeLong, of Nebraska City; a brother, Dallas, of Falls City; 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a husband.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 18, 2015 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Interment in Verdon Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
