ROY E. KIRKENDALL

Roy E. Kirkendall, 97, of Falls City, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Falls City. He was born June 25, 1917 at Barada to the late Jesse and Mary (Shafer) Kirkendall.

On April 15, 1939 he married Merna N. Vice at Topeka, KS.

Roy was raised at Barada and when married the couple established their home in Barada and he worked for Ted Yoesel, later moving to Verdon and working for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for five years. In 1943 he started farming on his own and moved to Falls City in 1959; he farmed and also worked for Falls City Auction Co. He retired from farming in 1969 and began working for Morehead Auto Co. as a car salesman, retiring in 1979. He then worked for SENCA for nine years.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Falls City, FC Elks Lodge and FC Saddle Club and had served on the Board of Harris Cemetery.

Roy is survived by his wife, Merna, of Falls City; sons, Ronald (Janyce), of Falls City, Daniel, of Branson, MO; daughters, Connie (Leonard) Brown, of Falls City, Cheryl McCann, of Falls City, and Richard McCann of Big Lake, MO; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, Ben, Dale, James, Arthur, Theodore and Charles; sisters, Elizabeth Alexander, Eliza Noll and Daisy Williams; grandchildren, Rodney Worth McCann and Michelle Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the First Christian Church, with Rev. Fay Ann Blaylock and Rev. Paul Weinert officiating. Interment will be in Harris Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home of Falls City.
