Frederick W. Friedly

 Frederick Wayne Friedly, 90, former editor/publisher of The Humboldt Standard, died April 14, 2014, in Eagle Point, OR.

He was born July 11, 1923, in Humboldt to Frederick Ferdinand and Elsie Myrtle Smith Friedly. He graduated from Humboldt High School in l941 and served in the Navy submarine service in World War II. He graduated from UNL in l949.

On Oct. 31, 1944, he was married to Shirley Jo Mitchell, Humboldt. She passed away Aug. l5, 2011.

Wayne taught school for one year in Crete and in 1950 they moved back to Humboldt to join her parents, Ben and Opal Mitchell, in running The Humboldt  Standard. They bought the newspaper and published it until 1975 when they sold it to Jack Cooper. The Friedlys moved to Casper, WY, then to Donnelly, Idaho.

He is survived by a son, Jay (Sandy), of Mountain Home, ID; daughter, Sue Ann Arnold, Eagle Point, OR, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 19 in Central Point, OR, and burial, with military honors, was at the Eagle Point VA National Cemetery.
