RON ROGGENKAMP

Ronald “Ron” Roggenkamp, 78, of Lincoln, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2015 with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 15, 1936 at Upland, NE, to Richard and Adwilda (Choquette) Roggenkamp.

The retired long-time counselor at Falls City High School grew up in the Upland area, graduating from Upland High School in 1953. He married Joyce Virden on Oct. 23, 1954 in Campbell, NE. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Two children were born of this union.

Ron farmed in Upland while attending Kearney State College and the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He taught one year in Harvard, NE, before moved his family to Falls City.

He was a lifetime member of Falls City Elks #963, where he served as Exalted Ruler and District Deputy East, where he was chairman of the scholarship committee, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Ron’s hobbies included reading, history, coin collecting, arrowhead hunting, all high school sports and Nebraska Cornhusker football and basketball.

He retired to Lincoln in 2000 and volunteered for several years at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Lincoln

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Richard (Theresa) Roggenkamp, of Lincoln; daughter, Roxann Roggenkamp, of Lincoln; brother, Guy (Sharon) Roggenkamp, of Grand Island; step-grandchildren, Jeff (Amy) Wiese and Kim (Ryun) Theobald; great-grandsons, Koen, Kiffin and Keegan Theobald; two nieces; six great-nephews; and many cousins.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and step-great-grandson, Henry Wiese.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church, of Lincoln, with Fr. Caleb LaRue officiating. The Rosary was read Monday, Jan. 5, at the church. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials may be directed to Ron’s favorite charities, in care of the family.

Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, of Lincoln, was in charge of arrangements.
