REV. DR. A. K. SAUL

Reverend Dr. Afzood K. Saul, (A.K.), 83, of Morton, IL, passed away May 5, 2014 at Morton, IL. He was born to Reverend and Mrs. Khem Singh Saul in a small town in Punjab (India), on October 10, 1930. A.K.’s father was a Circuit rider in the Methodist Church. A.K. studied in a Hindu primary school.After fourth grade he was sent to a Christian boarding school that is now in Pakistan. After the division of Pakistan and India, A.K. was transferred to another Christian boarding school in India, where he finished his high school education in 1947. After finishing college with a B.A. in 1951, A.K. worked as an adult literacy teacher for a year. During that time, his superintendent recommended him for the Seminary in Jabalpur, M.P. in 1953. There A.K. met Vibha Banerjee and they were married on December 5th, 1956 in the Seminary chapel.

A.K. served in India, with the Agra Conference as pastor, adult literacy director, stewardship director, promoter, and superintendent, for 19 years. In 1961 A.K. went to Asbury Seminary, in Kentucky, completed his Masters in Religious Education, and went back to India to be with his family. In 1973, A.K. received a scholarship to go to the St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Mo. where he completed his Masters of Divinity. A.K. later received a Doctorate of Divinity from American Bible Institute. In 1974, the Nebraska conference hired him to do pastoral ministry serving at the Loop Cooperative Parish, residing at Scotia, Ne. His family joined him there in 1975. Other United Methodist Churches that he served in Nebraska were in Giltner, Phillips, Sutton, Clay Center, Saronville, Falls City, Olive Crest, and Randolph. A.K. retired in 1997 for the 1st time. During this time, A.K. and Vibha settled in Omaha and served at the Blair United Methodist Church as Visitation Pastor, for (11) years. In December, 2008, A.K. retired again. In 2013, A.K. and Vibha moved to Morton, Illinois to live with their daughter Rebecca.

A.K. is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vibha (Banerjee), Morton, IL. Daughters Rebecca (Dan) Czubak, Morton, IL, Rachel (George) Monnier, Omaha, NE, son Ruben (Jaime Feek) Saul, Morton, IL, and (10) Grandchildren with a great grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and youngest son Noel Saul.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Falls City, NE. Officiating will be Pastor Lynn Elrod of Iowa and Pastor Lyle K. Schoen of Falls City. Interment will at Steele Cemetery, Falls City, NE. 

Visitation will be Friday, May 9, 2014, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Dorr and Clark Funeral Home in Falls City, NE.
