FC’s Huettner, Harling go 1-2 in triple jump at Syracuse

A strong field of perennial Class B powers made for a tough day for the Falls City High track teams last Thursday at the Scott Nisely Invitational at Syracuse, as the Tiger boys finished eighth and the girls ninth in the nine-team field.

Tiger junior Lee Huettner and senior Mitchell Harling made an impression, however, as they finished first and second, respectively, in the triple jump. Huettner, who has now won this event at all four of FC’s competitions this spring, jumped 41 feet, 11 inches, while Harling finished second with a distance of 40 feet, 7 1/2 inches. Huettner and Harling also earned respective fourth (20-01 1/2) and sixth-place (18-09) finishes in the long jump.

FC junior Zach Jordening brought home a fourth-place finish in the high jump and the FC throwers relay team of junior Payton Adams, senior Reese Hogue, junior Tucker Merz and junior Teddy Stutheit earned a runner-up finish with a time of 52.7 seconds.

Lady Tiger sophomore Lainey Larsen finished fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:27.9. Krystal Samqua, a junior, finished sixth in the pole vault with a height of six feet.

The Tigers compete again Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Platteview. The Falls City Invitational is scheduled for next Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. and parent’s will be recognized during the event as part of Parent’s Night.
