Betty Huddleston

Betty J. Huddleston, 85, of Horton, KS, died Sunday afternoon, March 9, 2014, at the Horton Community Hospital. She was born June 3, 1928 in Falls City to Don and Esther (Lohnes) Wolf.

She was raised by her mother Esther and stepfather, William “Bud” Rhoads, who Betty considered her Dad. The family moved when Betty was small to Willis, KS, where she grew up and attended school prior to the family moving to a farm near Hiawatha.  

She married James Torrez in 1946 in Troy, KS. In 1976 she married Harold “Hank” Huddleston in 1976 in Falls City. He died on Jan. 2, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ruth Hayes; and a brother, Robert Wolf.

Mrs. Huddleston was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha.  

Survivors include sons, Joseph (Janet) Torrez, of Omaha, William Torrez, of Finley, OH, and Rick Torrez, of Hiawatha; daughters, Mona Redmon, of Horton, Linda (Duane) Overfield, of Topeka; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at the First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha, with Rev. Randy Quinn officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at the church.
