Four Tigers place at Raymond Central

Falls City High’s wrestling team failed to do much damage in the team competition Saturday at the Raymond Central Invite, finishing in last place with 51 points, but senior Chase Thompson’s upset of fifth-ranked Karston Runge of Columbus Lakeview at 182 pounds highlighted a day in which the Tigers maximized the most out of their team.

Thompson, who placed third, won by fall in the first round before losing in the semifinals. He battled back on the consolation side of the bracket winning a 4-2 decision over of Raymond Central before defeating Runge for third place.

FC’s 138-pound sophomore, Morgen Valentine also finished third. Valentined opened with a first round by, then was defeated by Nebraska City in the semifinals before winning a pair of matches – one via major decision, the other by pin – to take home third.

Jeremy Zimmerman’s heavyweight division had only six entered in the bracket, but his day was perhaps the busiest. A round robing tournament determined the placing, which led to five matches for the Tiger junior, who finished the day 4-1 with three pins and one decision, en route to a second-place finish.

Alex Olsen finished sixth at 195 pounds. for FC, as he  pinned Dalton Rohrs of HTRS  to set him up for sixth place.

“The wrestlers continue to make strides and are wrestling better with each week of competition,” Falls City High Head Coach Ernie Valentine said. “It is great to see the wrestlers finding takedowns when they need them and stepping up to win the big matches.”

The team will close out the regular season this week with a home triangular with Auburn and Platteview and follow that up with the Boystown Dual tournament in Omaha on Friday.

Thursday’s home dual will begin at 5 p.m. with Falls City and Platteview dualing, followed by Auburn versus Platteview and finally FC against Auburn.

Parent’s will recognized following the Auburn-Platteview dual.

The Tiger Wrestling team will again partner with the SENCA food pantry at Thursday’s dual. Everybody that brings a food item for the Food Pantry will be admitted free. Wear your Orange & Black and sit with your family as we welcome Auburn and Platteview teams to town.

SENCA requests fans to bring the following: boxed Dinners, macaroni and cheese, soups, canned pasta, spaghetti noodles, spaghetti sauce, juice, cereal, peanut butter, toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, diapers (size newborn, three and four), baby wipes, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, soap, laundry detergent and dish soap.
