FC Tiger CC Invite Thursday afternoon

 

 

 

Falls City High’s girls’ cross country team had their best finish to date last Monday at the Rock Port (MO) Invite, finishing with a runner-up trophy in the 12-team field. The Lady Tiger runners finished with 76 points and had four girls in the top-20. Winnetonka (MO) was well out in front of everyone in first place with 24 points. Mid-Buchanan (MO) was third with 89 points.

The Tiger boys finished third overall with 88 points, 25 points behind runner-up Neb. City. Winnetonka also took home the boys title with 43 points.

Individually, FC was again led by a pair of freshmen, Kyle Leafty, who finished 11th with a time of 20:01, and Cheyenne Doval, who took home 12th place with a time of 24:42. Junior Brandon Gibson (12th, 20:01) and sophomore Lainey Larsen (13th, 24:45) also took home medals in their respective boys’ and girls’ divisions. Sophomore Lauren Bierman finished 18th with a time of 25:43, Morgan Roberts was 20th with a time of 25:42 and junior Krystal Samqua was 24th with a time of 26:06.

Other varsity finishes on the boys’ side were: sophomore Anthony Baker, 26th, 21:56; senior Justin Doerr (27th, 21:56); sophomore Blake Black, 31st, 22:27; freshmen Brett Black, 39th, 23:21.

Junior Elizabeth Oliver (48th, 35:58) and freshmen Christian Bennett (50th, 25:57) and Matthew Rathje (52nd, 26:12) competed for the Tiger junior varsity.

Friday the Tiger runners competed at Syracuse and according to head coach Cody Hawley, “seemed very tired from having two meets in one week.” FC struggled and finished 12th and 10th in the respective boys and girls divisions. Fourteen boys teams competed with Elkhorn Mt. Michael taking home first place. Plattsmouth finished first on the girls side where 13 schools competed.

Larsen had the best finish, 31st, with her time of 23:53. Leafty led the boys with a time of 19:35, good for 34th.

The Tigers host their annual invite at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the FC Golf Club.
