Lady Tigers, 1-2, split with Auburn and Hiawatha

Falls City High overcame a horrendous night shooting to pick up their first win of the season Friday night in a 19-14 victory over Auburn.

FC and Auburn combined for only nine made field goals and the Lady Tigers finished 4-for-34 from the floor. FC converted 11 of their 20 free-throw attempts compared to Auburn’s 3-for-8 performance at the line.

FC senior Brooke Scheitel helped lead the defensive effort with four steals to go along with seven rebounds and seven points. Senior Madison Olberding also grabbed seven boards and scored five points.

Shooting was better at Hiawatha, KS last Tuesday, but the Lady Tiges came up short, 42-36. The difference in the game came from behind the arc, where Hiawatha converted 3-of-7 three-point attempts, while FC finished 0-for-7. Junior Baylee Vrtiska led FC with eight points and six assists. Scheitel and junior Sydney Armbruster each grabbed seven rebounds, while sophomore Libby Bauman chipped in seven points.

FC (1-2) hosted Wymore Southern (4-0) Monday night and hosts Plattsmouth (2-2) Saturday afternoon.
