Blue Storm Seniors lose pitcher’s dual versus Auburn

The Blue Storm Seniors fell 4-3 to Auburn at home last Wednesday in their only action last week. The loss was FC’s first at the new SNC Field this season and dropped their record to 4-2 on the season.

FC’s Lane Scheitel entered in relief of Derek Bippes in the third inning and had another solid outing. Scheitel allowed just two hits, no earned and walked one while striking out seven in the game’s final five innings.

Auburn’s Joe Nelson was equally effective as Nelson only allowed two hits and two runs while striking out four in 4 1/3 innings pitched.

Wade Witt and Chase Thompson each drove in a run for FC, as well as accounted for two of the team’s five hits.

FC made Auburn pay for 10 walks by stealing 12 bases. With two swipes apiece for FC were Jordy Stoller, Wade Witt, Scheitel, Chaz Dunn and Tyler DiGiacomo.

The Blue Storm Seniors and Juniors travel to Hiawatha, KS tonight with the Juniors scheduled to play at 6, followed by the Seniors at 8. Falls City returns home tomorrow night for a pair of games against Tecumseh.

Thursday night the Juniors travel to Pawnee City for a double-header.

Saturday is the Fight for the Falls Seniors Tournament at SNC Field. Falls City’s first game is Saturday at 11 a.m. versus Fairbury. For more information on the tournament or the Blue Storm baseball team go to www.fcalb.org.
