Wayne Pfister

Wayne Pfister, 85, of Falls City, passed away May 25, 2013 at Falls City. He was born Sept. 30, 1927 at Hiawatha, KS to the late Simon and Mary (Wenger) Pfister.

Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946 and then served in the Reserves.

On Sept. 3, 1949 he married Nelle Runyan at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, northeast of Falls City.

Wayne was raised in Powhattan, KS and graduated from Powhattan High School in 1945, enlisting in the Navy before graduation. Following his discharge he attended Kansas State University. When married the couple established their home east of Barada and he started farming with his father-in-law and brother-in-law. He farmed his entire life. He enjoyed restoring old tractors and square dancing.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Powhattan American Legion, VFW of Falls City, Richardson County Historical Society and the Town and Country Promenaders.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Nelle, of Falls City; sons, Daryl Wayne and his wife Jane Marmet-Pfister, Tim Arlan (Karen), both of Falls City, Kerry Don (Kris), of Nebraska City, daughter, Susan Waynelle (John) Sailors, of Falls City; brother, Gale (Vivian), of Holton; sister, Donna Bairow, of Holton; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five foster grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Norma Guffy, Erma Jacobs, half-brother, Vernon Pfister and a half-sister, Marian Booth.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor John Sipf officiating. Interment will be in Williamsville Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.

Viewing will begin late Tuesday afternoon.
