Dorothy Lucille Day

Dorothy Lucille (Rausch) Day, 96, of Humboldt, passed away at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt on Sunday, May 19, 2013.

She was born at the family home near Humboldt Oct. 17, 1916, the daughter of Albert and Lydia (Schultz) Rausch. Dorothy graduated from Humboldt High with the Class of 1934. She then attended beauty school in Omaha.

On July 18, 1937, Dorothy was united in marriage to Forrest H. Day in Storm Lake, IA. The couple established their home in Humboldt for most of their married life. Dorothy owned and operated a beauty shop for a number of years and later worked for NPPD until retiring on Dec. 31, 1981.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Crescent Rebekah Lodge #100 and the United Methodist Church, all in Humboldt.

Dorothy is survived by her son, F. Michael Day and his wife, Alice, of Fairview, KS, a brother, Wayne (Vaunda) Rausch, Humboldt, a granddaughter, nephews, a niece and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Forrest “Frosty” Day, an infant brother, and a niece and a nephew.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 22, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, with Pastor Jaclyn Hoy officiating. Visitation was Tuesday at the mortuary. Interment was at the Humboldt Cemetery. Family choice memorials are suggested. Online condolences may be left at www.wherrymortuary.com.
