James “Jim” Donald Humm, 82, formerly of Dawson, Nebraska was born on September 13, 1940, in Falls City, Nebraska to Robert “Pete” and Alma Marie (Hey) Humm. Jim grew up in Falls City and attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Falls City Sacred Heart High School. After his schooling, Jim continued to live in Falls City until joining the U.S. Army. He served his country in active duty from March 23, 1961 until being honorably discharged on March 16, 1964.
On June 19, 1970, Jim was united in marriage to Margaret Rose Guilliams at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson, Nebraska. To this union four children, Stephen, Thomas, Sara and Emily were born. The couple moved to a farm outside of Dawson in 1970 where they raised their family and Jim farmed. He was a very hard-working man, devoted husband and loving father. Jim loved his John Deere tractors, working with wood, especially building things on his wood lathe which he built himself and watching his old Western television shows and movies. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson.
Jim passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of eighty-two years and eighteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret Rose in 2006, and siblings: Betty Whitten, Sister Mary Alma Humm, Carol Marteny, Patricia Simmonds, Robert Humm, John Humm, Richard Humm and Fred Humm.
Jim is survived by his loving children: Steve Humm of Dawson, NE; Tom Humm and fiancé for life Kristy Snethen of Dawson, NE; Sara Humm of Humboldt, NE; Emily Humm of Humboldt, NE; grandson Cody Humm of Auburn, NE; sisters: Katherine (Monte) Cox of Papillion, NE; Mary (Leon) Wenz of Falls City, NE; Margie (Larry) Cook of Plattsmouth, NE; a brother Charles Humm of Fargo, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
A Rosary will be recited at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2022, by Father Kenneth Hoesing at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson, Nebraska. Inurnment will immediately follow at Falls City Catholic Cemetery in Falls City with military honors conducted by the Nebraska Army Funeral Honor Guard.
