Richardson County Commissioners, during their October 18 meeting, reviewed with Attorney William VonSeggren his contract with the County for Public Defender services. Attorney VonSeggern indicated his desire to renew the contract for an additional two years at the same terms and conditions as the current contract. Formal action will be taken at a later meeting.
Commissioners received essentially the same third-quarter report from EDGE Executive Director Beckie Cromer that she had delivered to the City Council of Falls City a day earlier. Funding for the economic development organization is provided by the City, Richardson County, and a large number of private investors. Mrs. Cromer reported The Ames Companies are in the midst of a multi-million dollar capital improvement project that will add three new jobs at the Falls City plant. She reported that Vantec recently gained a new customer and the orders are being filled from production in Falls City. She also told Commissioners that Southeast Community College Vice President for Program Development, Bob Morgan, recently informed EDGE that SCC is seeking interest of architectural firms in preparation of plans for the construction of SCC’s Falls City Learning Center.
The EDGE executive thanked Commissioners for the County’s financial support and for the time they give to EDGE board and committee representation. The Commissioners approved the Annual Report to be submitted to the Nebraska Board of (Roads) Classifications and Standards. They also reviewed with a representative from Nebraska Machinery Company the procedures and plans available for the purchase of parts, supplies, and maintenance. Emergency Management Agency Director Brian Kirkendall met with the Board regarding water damage problems that are occurring on the lower level of the courthouse. There was no report at this meeting from Sheriff Don Pounds due to business at the Law Enforcement Center requiring the attention of Sheriff Pounds.
