Geraldine (Corn) Allen, 77, of Marine City, MI, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, at St. John’s Hospital in Detroit. She was born Nov. 7, 1935 at Salem to the late Fred and Goldie (Jenkins) Corn.
She was Valedictorian of the Salem High School Class of 1953. She attended Peru State College and first taught at Plattsmouth. Geraldine earned a Bachelors Degree and Masters of Education Degree from Wayne State College, graduating in 1971. After her marriage to Bill Allen, they moved to Michigan. They were later divorced.
She worked within the East China School District for 39 years asa teacher and 15 as principal. She retired in 1994.
Gerri was a member of Eastern Star Emily Ward Chapter #205, sorority Alpha Delta Kappa, Interfaith choir and she was active in the Marine City United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer at St. John’s River District Hospital and was a life member of the Richardson County Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eleanor Corn; brothers, Lewis and Willis D. Corn; nephew, Donald Lewis.
Survivors inlude a sister, Jo Ann (Harold) Auxier, of Falls City; sister-in-law, Bill (Vi) Corn, Lansing, KS; nieces and a nephew.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 19, 2013, in Marine City. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Maple Cemetery, Salem.
