STERLING KOTTICH

Sterling Kottich, 90, of Falls City, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015. He was born on Dec. 25, 1924 at Rulo to the late Walter and Emma (Scheitel) Kottich.
    On Feb. 16, 1947 he married Laura Zimmerman at Zion United Church of Christ, northeast of Falls City.
    Sterling graduated from Falls City High School in 1941and was the first Chapter President of FCHS’ Future Farmers of America. He traveled to Poland in 1945 to deliver horses at the end of World War II and farmed his entire life in Richardson County. Sterling coached Pee Wee baseball for 25 years, and had a collection of 2,700 hats. He was a square dancer, volunteer school crossing guard and drove a bus for FC Public Schools. He donated more than 20 gallons of blood to the Red Cross Blood Drives though out the years.
    Sterling was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Falls City Elks Lodge, Toast Masters, Rural Water Board and County Weed Board.
    He’s survived by his wife, Laura, of Falls City; sons, Douglas (Dianna) Kottich, of Falls City, David (Deborah) Kottich, of Elm Creek, and Stan (Jeanne) Kottich, of Seward; daughters, Nancy (Bruce) Demmel, of Falls City, and Janice (Richard) Korthanke, of Hiawatha, KS; brother, Charles Kottich, of Largo, FL; sisters, Violet Heim, of Dawson, and Lila Deeter, of San Antonio, TX; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren.
    Sterling was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter and Virgil; infant daughter at birth; great-grandchildren, Bett and Joy Siyajuck.
    His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Zion United Church of Christ, northeast of Falls City, with Rev. Paul Weinert officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. Interment in the church cemetery.
