Wall comes crumblin’ down at the Falls City Elks Lodge

A groundbreaking ceremony was more of a “wall-breaking” ceremony at the Falls City Elks Lodge #963 last week.

The “wall-breaking” marked the beginning of construction on the Elk’s Lodge. The renovation project will improve the current facility giving it a more modern, wide-open look. The interior will be remodeled with new furnishings and a memorial/donor board to be placed on a prominent wall of the remodeled dining area. There will also be new plumbing and electrical and the facility should be able to accommodate 300 people. 

During the ceremony, Head Trustee Rob Gerweck shared his excitement over the project. “This is something the members and community are excited about” Gerweck added “Nothing like this has happened to our lodge in the last 50 years.”

Jerry Joy of the Finance Committee addressed the crowd of around 40 people by introducing the fundraising committee of Rob Gerweck, Ben Hullman, Dan Simon, Cathy Scholl and Renee Kopf and the Elk’s Trustees who were able to attend: Brian McKim, Gerweck, Dan Scholl and Brian Daake. Joy wanted to thank everyone involved with the project, “Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to all the donors and thank you to the fundraising committee!” Joy went on to explain the bid from Ayars & Ayars, Inc. came in $5,000 under which will help with the purchase of furniture and other furnishings needed for the new space. Many local contractors will be used for the project.  Joy also said in the future they plan to add a deck on the south side of the building. 

Exalted Ruler Brian McKim spoke of how the Elk’s are trying to be progressive, just like many other businesses in Falls City. McKim also spoke of how many other lodges are in awe of their ability to raise the funds needed for such a project. 

“Many have recently asked how we could raise this much money, my response was to tell them that we had a great fundraising committee and many great people in our community and across the country who believe in what we are doing.” 

McKim also went on to thank the finance committee, donors and supportive community.  

The renovation is expected to last 10 weeks. The Elks Lodge will remain open during the construction. Donor names and memorials will be etched on a prominent wall upon completion of the project. Please check your information and inform a trustee or committee member of any corrections. You can make a donation or increase your current donation at any time, but the committee is looking to finalize this list by Dec. 1, 2014.
