Falls City High’s boys basketball team improved to 15-1 on the season Tuesday night in Seneca, KS with a 60-35 victory over St. Mary’s (KS) in the first round of the 34th annual Raider Classic at Nemaha Valley High School.
The Tigers made 10 three-pointers, including four from junior Weston Witt and three each from junior Jordy Stoller and senior Tyler DiGiacomo. Stoller led FC with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and added a team-high four steals. Witt came off the bench and finished with 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting.
FC jumped on St. Mary’s (0-8) early to build a 21-9 first quarter lead and never looked back.
FC faces Jackson Heights (9-2) Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the first semifinal. Jackson Heights (KS) defeated Horton (KS), 64-53, in their first round contest.
Also advancing to Thursday’s semifinals were Silver Lake and the second-seeded hosts, Nemaha Valley.
Silver Lake, which improved to (8-1) pulled away from Marysville for a 53-41 victory after leading by only four points at the end of three quarters.
Nemaha Valley, now 9-1, trailed 8-5 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored Hiawatha (KS) 34-15 in the second and third quarters en route to a 51-33 victory. Nemaha Valley entered the tournament as the three-time defending Raider Invite champion and ranked No. 7 in Class 3A.
Nemaha Valley and Silver Lake will tip-off at approximately 8 p.m. Thursday night.
Saturday’s championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
