Lucille Leota (Farwell) Eis, 97, of Humboldt, died at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1916, in rural Humboldt, the daughter of Ralph and Clara (Aikman) Farwell. She was baptized at the DuBois Methodist Church on Aug. 28, 1927. Lucille attended Uniondale District #66 country school and later graduated from DuBois High School in 1934. After graduating, she attended Peru State Teachers College and taught in a country school.
On May 31, 1936, Lucille married John William Eis and the couple enjoyed 67 years together. Lucille was a homemaker and helped with all the farm duties. She could take care of the cattle and sheep, had laying hens, raised roosters to butcher, worked a big garden and canned everything possible while living on the farm.
She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church in DuBois, a member of the Pythian Sister Lodge and Extension Club in Pawnee City and the Rosedale Pinochle Club. She became a resident of the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt on Nov. 24, 2004, after her husband passed away and her own health began to decline.
Lucille is survived by her daughters, Elaine (Paul) Burgett, rural Humboldt, and Janice (Harold) Koeneke, York; sons, John A. Eis, Lincoln, Don (Linda) Eis, rural Humboldt, and Ron (Deb) Eis, rural Humboldt; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Ardyth Farwell, rural Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, brothers, John, Ralph (Donna), and Allen (Marilyn) Farwell, and brothers-in-law, Robert and Fred Eis.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 19, at the United Methodist Church in DuBois, with Rev. Sherry Sklenar officiating. Visitation was Friday at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt.
Interment was at the Humboldt Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the DuBois United Methodist Church or to family’s choice.
