Members of the City Council and Mayor Tim Hersh approved a new budget and slightly reduced property tax levy when they met Monday, Sept. 16, at the City Building.
Their action followed a public hearing at which no one spoke.
In prepared budget notes, City Administrator Gary Jorn wrote that property valuations increased 14% from 2012 to 2013. This translates into a levy decrease of .013711 per $100 of valuation.
Jorn said the new budget calls for $329,883 in capital expenditures in the general fund and that capital expenditures in the general fund will increase by 3%. There was no increase in health insurance costs, while property, liability and workers’ compensation costs will increase by 10%.
