Paul Montague Rieger, 76, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, April 29, 2013, at home in Sheridan, WY.
Paul was born to George and Blanche Rieger in Falls City on June 9, 1936. He was an accomplished steer wrestler (bull dogger) and rode bareback while living in western Nebraska and Kansas.
Paul married Veronica Marie Darveau at Falls City on June 20, 1959. He worked at the Nebraska State Reformatory from 1958 to 1961 as Lieutenant of Guards. From 1961 to 1962 he was a deputy sheriff in Richardson County. Paul then went to work for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad as an assistant special agent. In 1970, he received a promotion that led him and his family to Sheridan, WY, as a special agent in the Yellowstone Division. He retired from the railroad in 1983 and he and Veronica then took the job of managers of West Park Mobile Home Court. He retired in 2006.
He was a self-taught carpenter and a skilled fabricator and built many sheds.
Paul is survived by his wife, Veronica, sons, Paul (Cheryl), Gillette, WY, and Steve (Lori) Rieger, Sheridan, a daughter, Angel (Pierson) Caudill, Carlsbad, NM, a sister, Nancy (Ed) Boehme, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Friday afternoon, May 3, at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Inurnment was in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery.
